Team J News Issue 7 - The Thunderbirds Clinic!

In August I went over to St Ives to give my second Thunderbirds Clinic. The Thunderbirds are a friendly training group linked to the Northside Riding Club who meet every second month for a midweek training day.

The days are held at the picturesque Avondale Pony Club Grounds where a peaceful bush setting is contrasted with stunning views of the city. The grounds allow for dressage, cross-country and showjumping training. Training is conducted in small groups of four or five riders for an hour and half each session, with experience and skills ranging from beginners through to experienced competition riders.

I find it to be a lovely atmosphere, where all the riders are supportive of each other and hungry for new information. This week's talented group included: Karin, Jill, Trina, Brenda, Louise, Helen, Andrea, Jose, and Rebecca. In our lessons we were focussing on rider position, in particular the use of the eyes, soft even hands and a deep heel.
