On the 20th and 21st of September this year, Shoalhaven Showjumping Club Inc will be hosting the 2nd Annual Showjumping Championships.
The inaugural championships were held on 4th February 2007, which had 130 equestrian riders and their accompanying 350 horses from across NSW in attendance. The Event received great coverage in the local media. The day was highly successful and enjoyed by all competitors, officials and the committee. So much so that by demand the Championships this year will be held over two days.
Please keep an eye on our web site as we will soon be releasing our schedule of events for the Championships.

Hot Showjumping at Clarendon!

Thirty-degree temperatures didn't deter over 270 horses from competing at the showjumping competition held at SSJC's Clarendon grounds yesterday, Sunday 16th March!

The grounds were in perfect order and excellent jumping was seen. The large entries created some marshalling issues, but co-ordinator Vicki Pepyat added, "We would like to thank the riders for their patience and cooperation in what turned out to be a very long day. Likewise, our ground staff, judges marshals and pencillers who all worked so hard". With jumping at the Sydney Royal Easter Show starting this Thursday 20th March, competitors were keen to use SSJC as a final "hit out" before heading for Homebush. Many riders had travelled extensively to attend, such as Lachlan Manual from Queensland who gave an impressive display on the grey "Belcam Hector" to win the 1.30m feature event of the day.

Robert Howarth & Paul Tridgell designed the courses with Paul Tridgell, Joyce Brooks and Jenny Merity sharing the judging responsibilities.

The eventing fraternity were strongly represented as they prepare for the Sydney Three Day Event at SIEC in April. Heath Ryan from Lochinvar won two classes on Bindaboo and Chris Burton rode stylishly to win the D grade on Capricorn Zenith. In ring one Amy Eggington won two classes on Alabama Rose and Ashley Whiting won the opening class on Torque. Jono Berry from Wilberforce was in good form in the main ring for a win and a second riding JB Idaho. Young Kelly Slater from Pitt Town on Mystique and Kazu Sakamoto from Japan riding Torchbearer were the other winners in ring three.

A new combination to make a stylish debut and win the 1.00m class was young Sophie Miller from Jamberoo riding Ricardo D. Vicki Roycroft won the Australian Championships on Ricky a couple of years ago and was delighted at the way the new combination has bonded.

Club President Paul Tridgell said, "We would like to remind riders coming to SSJC that only paid up members will be allowed to compete and THS (travelling horse statements) are compulsory. Pre entries are required for all SSJC events so check the website, www.teamj.com.au for details of entry closing times.

SSJC WINTER CHAMPIONSHIPS 5th Aug 2007

Relief was the greatest reaction after the hugely successful Sydney Showjumping Club's Winter Championships. It was a case of third time lucky for organisers who had been forced to cancel two earlier dates due to the July rain! But on Sunday 5th August a beautiful sunny winters day, excellent footing and nearly 600 entries in four rings made for a busy enjoyable day of competition, more >>

May Day at SSJC Competition 20-05-2007

A great roll up of riders at SSJC at Clarendon on Sunday 20th May produced a MAY DAY of Competition!

Heavy rain leading up to the weekend made the grounds soft but safe, with courses designed by Mark Atkins, David Lawrence and Paul Tridgell proving challenging but fair.

The large numbers of entries were facilitated by the addition of extra paid marshals and the availability of pre entries that was appreciated by all competitors.

Chris Chugg from Glossodia is training a team of young riders from the Philippines and Singapore. Riding horses he has leased and provided, the girls made a successful and impressive contribution to the day's competition. Erica Manosa was given the ride on Chris' former Australian Showjumping Champion "Navy Seal", (now 18years old) to win the 1.10m class, and Macarena Rocha rode the recently acquired "Cloud Street" to win the 80cm class.

Young rider Jamie Winning of Wilberforce is emerging as a rising talent to be reckoned with. Riding her horse "Yandoo Triple J", Jamie dominated ring 2 to win two classes: the D Grade and the 1.20 classes.

Kelly Slater from Pitt Town, daughter of champion rider Sharon Slater (nee Scott), showed great promise to stylishly win the 70cm class on her delightful palomino "Oliver Twist".

Judges Joyce Brook, Lyn McLeod and Fiona McLeod officiated over large fields and were pleased with the overall safe riding on the damp surfaces.

Riders are now gearing up for the SSJC Winter Championships on 1st July, which is expected to attract riders from all over NSW. Convenor Sue Coonan of Maraylya, said, "our committee is putting in place the management infrastructure to enable us to run first class events here at Clarendon. We are very pleased with how the Club is progressing!"
