Jenny Hawke
Name:
Jenny Hawke
Age: Born NZ 1956, I have a husband David (whom
I met holidaying in Europe).
I am a proud mum of Matthew 24yrs & Dean 22 yrs.
CJ: What do you do?
JH: I work in Pharmaracy and have a Diploma as a Dispensary
Technican. I am currently working at a Pharmacy at Norwest Marketown.
My qualifications allow me to dispense prescriptions and perform
similiar duties as the Pharmacist. I enjoy my work and enjoy helping
and communicating with customers. There are always courses to attend
to help keep up with the latest Pharmaceutical changes. For
leisure I enjoy going to the races, picnics, bush walking, and getting
together for dinner with friends. I enjoy most sports and in between
horse riding and working (which doesn't give me alot of time) I
enjoy yoga and other forms of exercise.
CJ: Tell me about your riding and your horses.
JH:
I learnt to ride in my late 20's. It all started while holidaying
with my husband and two small children in Forster. A friend had
children of the same age and we would take them to FollyFoot Farm
for pony rides. It then progressed to our husbands minding the children
and my friend and I going on the Trail rides. The love of horses
was cemented. From then on I had to master this rising to the trot.
So back in Sydney I had lessions to learn to ride. While my children
were little I had met two great friends with the same passion for
horses. So when my children started school we all volunteered at
R.D.A (Riding for the disabled) at Kellyville. I became an Instructors
Aide and volunteered up to 3 days a week. The need to be near horses
and enjoy the pleasure it gave to others. Eventually that wasn't
enough. I had to have a horse of my own (much to my husbands digust
- not really). I bought an 8yr old Apaloosa called "Marble Warrior"
with eye catching black & white varnish marks ( no spots). He
had trained dressage skills and I had the basic riding skills. Together
we formed a great partnership - he helped me out with the Dressage
and we learned to jump together (lots of lessons). Our Eventing
career began...... We sucessfully competed up to Pre-Novice and
had the best time. I owned him for 6 yrs when a chip fracture
in his knee prevented him from continuing at Eventing. P.K. (bay
thoroughbred gelding 12yrs) was my next horse whom I evented up
to Pre-lim with some sucess as well. But was not the horse Marble
Warrior was. I owned him for 4yrs enjoying eventing, trial riding
and being a KRC member. Then I met Chrissie through an advertisement
selling 'Jane' - thoroughbred, chestnut mare. Three things I didn't
really want.... a mare, a chestnut, and maybe not another thoroughbred.
But one ride and I knew I had to have her- with all her little quirks.
So here I am today, aggisting Jane at Chrissies, having great tuition,
competing up to a metre showjumping ( which I always had that phase)
and love now. We have started our eventing career again, one competition
with one placing and hopefully many more to follow.
CJ:
What
are your goals -short and long term.
JH:
My
goals are to continue Showjumping and compete at D grade next year.
Continue eventing and compete Pre-lim next year and a little Dressage.
I hope to continue riding for many more years to come...and who
knows where it will take me.
CJ:
Describe some of your successes in riding.
JH:
One of my best memories was winning my first rug at an O.D.E at
Prelim level. My ambition was always to be the best over the three
phases and to have that embroided rug to show for it. I have had
some great wins & places all exciting and memoriable.
Recently Janes Dressage score of 76% was a great success and to
win in respected company made it even more sweet. Also jumping our
1st clear round at a metre at Jump Club.
CJ:
What makes your life enjoyable and worthwhile?
JH:
Having
great family and friends. And of course my love of horses
and being able to fill my dream of be able to ride. Everyday is
a great day. I have formed so many great friendships through the
common bond of horses.
CJ:
What
is your favourite movie?
JH:
Then.... Black Stallion & National Velvet (good to keep showing
the kids) because I liked them.
Now......Million Dollar Baby
CJ:
What is your favourite music?
JH:
Not really a music fan.
CJ:
What
is your favourite food?
JH:
Thai & vietnamese & cakes !!!!!!!!
CJ:
What
do you think you will be doing in 10 years time.
JH: Hopefully still riding. If not relaxing and
touring parts of Australia. Maybe being a grandmother!
CJ: Your
motto for life?
JH:
Enjoy today you don't know what life will throw at you tomorrow.
