Sydney Showjumping Club set for a great year!

The Sydney Showjumping Club is gearing up for a great year ahead in 2011. At the Annual General Meeting on Tuesday 15th March the Annual Reports revealed the Club to be in a very sound position and with great plans in place for the coming year.

Vice President Mark Atkins said, “Despite many cancelled days last year due to wet weather, we are still   in a position to carry out much needed refurbishments to the practice arenas and repairs to drainage and pipes in the coming months. We are always working to ensure that the SSJC grounds are the premier venue for Showjumping in NSW.”

The following executive and Committee were elected:

President David Lawrence, Vice-Presidents Karinda Alpert & Mark Atkins, Secretary Dr Juho Looveer, Treasurer Robert Nault. Committee Christine Johnson- Publicity, Joyce Brook- Judges and Officials Convenor, Susan Nault-First Aid; Judges & Officials, Sue Coonan, Jenny Sheppard,Helen Conran –Memberships, Linda Beneke, Coralie Christie, Colleen Brook

The Committee paid tribute too Paul Tridgell, the retiring Treasurer and former President who had worked so tirelessly for the club in the past years.

It was agreed to erect an Honour Roll Board in the Clubhouse to recognise SSJC members who have ridden internationally for Australia. This has been donated by Glenn Dawson, (in memory of Di Dawson, who was a long time member of SSJC and sadly passed away last month.)

Best of luck to the SSJC members who have travelled to New Zealand for the Horse of the Year Show at Napier in Hawke’s Bay this week.

George Sanna from Glossodia, the current Australian Showjumping Champion, heads the Australian team, along with Julia Hargreaves from Wilberforce, Brook Dobbin from Victoria, and Cathy Graham from Queensland.

Danielle Butcher, Jamie Kermond and Jamie Winning will also compete as individuals.  The Aussies made a good start to the show with the first event the Bomac Norwood Gold Cup results being Billy Raymont (Aust) Nicalette NZPH 1, Anthony Thomas (Aust) Levitation NZPH 2, George Sanna (Aust) CP Aprilla 3, Ike Unsworth (Tauranga) NRM Wimbledon MVNZ 4, Brook Dobbin (Aust) Advisor 5, Julia Hargreaves (Aust) Vedor 6.

It was sad to hear that Andrew Inglis has broken his arm in a horse accident and we wish him a speedy recovery.

The SSJC have a good calendar of events coming up and we would like to remind everyone that you must be a current SSJC member to compete and that all entries are strictly pay beforehand at the time of entries, and must be done through www.globalentriesonline.com.au
